Spike Wademan is a New Zealand based artist who's father was; incredibly; a Spitfire pilot in WWII.

The Spitfire in this image features the black and white stripes on the wings and fuslage that were painted on all allied aircraft for the D-Day mission - to ensure that they were not targeted by friendly fire.
