The M113 American armoured transporter is an extremely popular vehicle around the world. It was commissioned in 1960. The M113 armour is made of aluminium plates; this reduced the weight of the vehicle. The first units were powered by a carburettor engine. The M113A1 version has a diesel engine installed. The M113 chassis and hull have become the basis for the development of a number of vehicles with a wide range of purposes and armaments. It was first used during the Vietnam War; where it was successfully used to transport people and supplies. By the time the m2 Bradley was introduced to service; the M2 Bradley - m113 was the primary vehicle of the American mechanized infantry. Later; this role gradually diminished.
The vehicle remains in the service of many armies around the world. In 2003; Germany transferred 35 transporters from the M113 family to Poland. To this day; they serve in the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade.
